That’s what a Head of Product told me five years ago when I asked her what was most broken in her revenue stack.

At the time, they were using Zuora and Salesforce CPQ — and despite all the resources they had, quoting and billing were still painful. “These tools just weren’t built for SaaS,” she said. They had even tried building an internal system — and still struggled.

As a BS/MS in Computer Science, I initially thought: How hard could billing be? It’s just recurring charges, right?”

Boy, was I wrong.

As I dug deeper, I realized the issue wasn’t just the tools — it was flawed architecture. Point solutions for CPQ and Billing, each with their own incompatible product catalogs, may have worked in the non-SaaS world. But in SaaS — where subscriptions, renewals, proration, frequent pricing changes, and multi-channel sales are the norm — this fragmented setup simply falls apart.

The solution was deceptively simple.

Unify CPQ and Billing (and Metering) into one platform with a single unified product catalog. This platform is built with modern architecture principles of API-first that supports PLG and SLG effortlessly and powers all business models - subscriptions, one-time and consumption.
